SIVAGANGA: Two children died and seven others were hospitalised in a diarrhoea outbreak at Keelarangiam village near Thirubuvanam on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Panditharani (4), daughter of Dhandeeshwaran of Koodathupatty, and Katturaja (5), son of Ponnaiya of Keelarangiam.

It is said that 25 children, all below five years, developed severe stomach pain coupled with diarrhoea after eating the midday meal at a pre-school (Palvadi) at Keelarangiam.

Collector M.A .Siddique told The Hindu it appeared to be a case of food poisoning.

The Additional Collector has been asked to conduct a detailed enquiry into the incident. — Staff Reporter
