Tributes were paid to freedom fighter ‘Dheerar’ Satyamurti at a function organised by H.H. The Rajah’s College here on Friday. Speakers referred to the late Satyamurti’s service in the cause of freedom movement and national development.

N. Krishnamurthi, founder of Gnanalaya library, traced the circumstances that led to the development of Congress and freedom movement in Tamil Nadu due to ‘Dheerar’ Satyamurti’s upright principles and courageous act. ‘Dheerar’ Satyamurti, he said, was crucial in identifying late Kamaraj to lead the Congress movement in the State. He also played a vital role in achieving major projects such as the Poondi reservoir and also establishing Annamalai University.

Mr. Krishnamurthi said the he was a great parliamentarian worthy of emulation by people’s representatives. He called upon college students to inherit the courageous path shown by the leader.
