In Dindigul and Theni districts on the occasion of ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’
DINDIGUL: Vaikunta Ekadasi, signifying the opening of the ‘Paramapada Vasal,’ was celebrated with religious fervour in all Vaishnavite temples in Dindigul and Theni districts in the early hours of Monday.
Special pujas were performed to the main deity in Sri Soundararaja Perumal temple at Thadikombu, 10 km away from here around 5.45 a.m.
Meanwhile, utsavamurthy and Alwars were decorated at Thaayar sannadhi. After preliminary pujas to main deity, the aesthetically decorated utsavamurthy preceded by Alwars were taken out in a procession around the outer prakaram. Earlier, the Lord had offered special sevas to Alwars.
Amid chanting of holy hymns and playing of percussion instruments, Lord Soundararaja Perumal, entered into the ‘Sorga Vasal,’ popularly known as ‘Paramapadha Vaasal,’ at 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, Sri Nammazhvar and other Azhavars waited outside the Paramapadha Vasal, the gateway of salvation, situated on the north side of the temple, to see and receive the blessings of the Lord Vishnu.
Later, Sri Soundararaja Perumal was placed in Vasantha Mandapam for public darshan.
Several devotees accompanied the Lord to the gateway of salvation. Devotees observed fast.
Hundreds of devotees took part in the festival celebrated at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple near Rock Fort. After special pujas, the Lord mounted on Garudazhvar and reached a separate hall near the main mandapam for darshan. Devotees waited in a serpentine queue for darshan.
The 21-day ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ festival has been divided into ten days of ‘Pagal Pathu’ and ten days of ‘Rapathu’ utsvam in all Vaishnavite temples. ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ was celebrated at Sri Soundaraja Perumal Temple at Vadamadurai, Sri Kadir Narasina Perumal Temple at Reddiyarchtram, Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple in Nagal Nagar, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Renganathapuram and Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple in Palani.
Hundreds of devotees took part in the ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ festival celebrated at Kambaraya Perumal temple in Cumbum. Devotees thronged the temple since early morning to receive the blessings of the God.
Hundreds of people from different parts of the district thronged Perumal temples on Monday in view of ‘Vaikunda Ekadesi,’ particularly Adi Kesava Perumal temple in Thiruvattar.
Special pujas and abhisekams were offered to the presiding deities. Special prayers were held at Thiruvazmarban temple at Thirupathisaram, Edar Theertha Perumal temple at Vadiveeswaram, Dwaraka Krishnan temple at Suchindrum, Sree Devi Boodevi Sametha Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal temple at Kothaigramam etc.
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has operated special buses from various destinations to these temples.
