CHENNAI: Secretary of the South Chennai unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and T.Nagar MLA V.P.Kalairajan said on Friday that the police had withheld permission for the protest demonstration planned by the party to highlight issues related to the development of his constituency. He told reporters here that though a formal request was made by the AIADMK for staging the protest near the Chepauk Guest House, the police did not give permission.

Though Rs.1.96 crore had been earmarked from his constituency development fund to take up schemes in the segment, none of the projects recommended by him had been implemented, he alleged. The State Government had also not come forward to construct the MLA’s office building in the constituency.

His plea for construction of the building in 127th division had been “rejected” by a Corporation panel, though the local officials had described it as a “suitable site” and this was also conveyed to the Corporation and the Assembly Secretariat, he said.
