Be ‘humane’ to prevent and alleviate sufferings of deprived sections: VC

Tuticorin: The Vice Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Cynthia Pandian, laid the foundation stone for a women’s hostel and a new classroom block at A.P. C. Mahalaxmi College here on Thursday.

The two-storied hostel would be constructed using the grants allotted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to the tune of Rs 99,66,624.

The hostel would have state-of-the-art facilities to house 240 persons at the rate of six students per room.

It would also have a well equipped reading room, a visitors’ room and two medical care rooms.

The class room block comprising six rooms would be built using internal resources of the trust which runs the college.

Delivering her address, Ms. Pandian called upon the students to hone their extra curricular and co-curricular skills along with the academic excellence, to develop their overall personalities.

She asked the students to be ‘humane’ to prevent and alleviate the sufferings of the deprived sections.

Pillars of education

The Collector R. Palaniyandi said the students should try to understand the importance of the concepts — ‘Learning to know’, ‘learning to do’, ‘learning to live together’ and ‘learning to be what one is capable of’, which are considered the four pillars of education.

A.P.C.V. Chockalingam, president of the college, was present.
