THANJAVUR: Desilting work to the tune of Rs. 9.95 crore, being implemented in the Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam, would be completed by this month-end, said S. Ramasundaram, Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD), at Kumbakonam on Saturday.

He inspected desilting works at Konakidangalar near Thirukattuppalli, Pillaivaikkal at Kachamangalam, Thuriyar in Thingalur, Manniyar in Pudukudisai and Mudikondan at Seshampadi. He also inspected the work on installation of regulators at a cost of Rs. 1.76 crore across Arasalar at Sakkottai near Kumbakonam.

He told presspersons that Rs. 29.5 crore had been allotted by the state Government to take up repair works in regulators and shutters from Mettur dam to tail-end areas. Moorthy, Chief Engineer, PWD, Sadasivam, Superintending Engineer and Asokan, Executive Engineer, accompanied him. Collector M. S. Shanmugham, had a discussion with the Secretary.
