He often picked quarrels with his stepfather and wife

A deserter police constable was allegedly murdered by his stepfather and his friends on the Vaigai riverbed in the early hours of Tuesday. The Karimedu police arrested K. Gnanasekaran (45), S. Ramar (35) and N. Mani (35).

The police said the deceased, N. Anand (26), who worked as a constable in the 15{+t}{+h}Battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police in Dharmapuri district, was brought up by Gnanasekaran of Arapalayam Main Road, Padithurai. Gnanasekaran had married Anand’s mother. She had already got pregnant out of marriage with another person.

Anand who was deployed at the Chennai City Police Commissionerate had fallen in love with a woman constable of the TSP Battalion in Avadi, A. Tamil Selvi.

After they got married in 2010, both of them deserted the department and shifted to West Ponnagaram, Inspector of Police (Karimedu) T. Chakravarthy said.

An alcoholic, Anand did not go for any job and the family was run with the money given by his stepfather. However, Anand often picked quarrels with both Gnanasekaran and Tamil Selvi.

He used to threaten Gnanasekaran with dire consequences if he did not bequeath his property to him. He also tortured Tamil Selvi and threatened to kill their one-year-old girl, if she did not bring money from her parents. A couple of days ago, Tamil Selvi left him after a quarrel and stayed at Gnanasekaran’s house.

On Monday night, Anand went to Gnanasekaran’s house and quarrelled with him in an inebriated condition. In the melee, he also tried to attack him with a knife. However, Gnanasekaran managed to escape unhurt and chased him with a knife.

He was supported by his friends, Ramar and Mani.

When Anand reached the Vaigai riverbed, Gnanasekaran stabbed him and slit his throat, killing him on the spot, the police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by Tamil Selvi, the police have arrested the trio.
