With Chief Minister Jayalalithaa having provided free footwear and laptop for students, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre remained a confused lot on what to gift the students to mark the Chief Minister’s birthday on February 24.
After a brainstorming session with the Education Department, the Udumalpet MLA and former minister and deputy speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman has managed to keep himself ahead in the race in selling novel ideas.
He has published 16,000 copies of question banks for Class X and Plus II students who will appear for the public examinations in March this year. “Every year, students are given books, notebooks, stationery, geometric box and footwear. Hence, we chose to give something to students which will be of use to them and decided on a question bank that would help them build a good career,” Mr. Jayaraman told The Hindu .
Considering the time required for them to make use of the question bank, Mr. Jayaraman had already commenced the distribution of the books in his constituency and also to whoever comes up asking for the same.
He plans to complete the same well ahead of the Chief Minister’s birthday so that the students would have ample time to prepare for the exams.
The book prepared by a group of experienced teachers with lots of years of service also has career guidance tips on what courses to pursue and on how to face exams and interviews.
These tips are helpful even to the parents in preparing their children for a highly competitive career ahead, he said.
“The book is primarily meant for students with Tamil medium of education in Government and aided schools and I am not restricting it to students in my constituency alone and any student/parent can avail of the same from my MLA’s office”, Mr. Jayaraman added.
When asked about extending the Chief Minister’s birthday gift to students in the rest of the State, Mr. Jayaraman said “If that were to be the wish or instruction from Amma, it will be duly carried out to the maximum extent possible well within my resources.”
The book is a “gift from the AIADMK for Amma’s birthday” and the results they show in terms of their performance in the examinations will be their gift to the Chief Minister for her birthday,” he said.
