The education department in the Tiruchi revenue district had resolved to increase both its overall pass percentage and share of State ranks. Both resolutions had paid off, thanks to extra efforts taken by the department, said K. Selvakumar, chief educational officer.

Special study materials were obtained for low-scoring students in government schools, through private sponsorship. On the other hand students who consistently scored above 480 marks were given extra coaching with an eye on bagging State ranks, said Mr. Selvakumar. Nutritious evening snacks like sundal were provided for students during special classes. Programmes to motivate teachers were also conducted, said the delighted CEO.
