A demonstration staged by the youth wing of Naidu Mahajana Sangam turned violent as some of its members pelted stones on vehicles travelling on the Theni-Dindigul Highway here on Sunday.

Windshield of a private bus proceeding to Chinnamanur from Palani and few auto-rickshaws were damaged.

Four persons - Ajit Kumar, Karthik, Raja and Nagaraj – were arrested in this connection.

The Naidu Mahajana Sangam staged the demonstration to condemn the destruction of Rani Mangammal Palace in Madurai and demanding the immediate arrest of persons behind the incident.

After the demonstration, the police advised them to disperse.

But they wished to take out a rally which was turned down by the police. Angered by this, they pelted stones at the vehicles.

Two arrested

Two were arrested for throwing stones at a mosque in Periakulam. After preliminary investigation, police said the youth pelted stones in an inebriated state.
