They hope it will be unanimous and render justice to riparian States

NAGAPATTINAM: Cauvery delta farmers in Tamil Nadu are hopeful that the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, to be delivered on February 5, would be unanimous and render justice to the riparian States.

S. Ranganathan, general secretary of the Cauvery Delta Farmers Welfare Association, said on Thursday that farmers in the Cauvery delta were eagerly looking forward with anxiety to the final award.

He said that it had been announced that the final award would be based on the assessors report, made public by the tribunal.

"By such an Act, we expected the CWDT would be in a position to announce its award much earlier by September or October 2006."

Mr. Ranganathan said the delay has caused some anxiety in the minds of the delta farmers.

"We are hopeful that the final award would be a unanimous one and render justice to the riparian States."
