ERODE: Tamilnadu Toddy Movement has urged the State Government to decide before Coimbatore Tamil conference the lifting of ban on toddy tapping.
In a release the Movement says the Government must announce its decision ahead of the conference.
The decision must include lifting of the ban on tapping, removing of toddy from the list of alcoholic beverages, introducing subsidy for toddy, including neera (unfermented toddy) in noon-meal in schools, replacing polythene and plastic materials with palm and coconut products, etc.
The Movement has also decided to tie black flags atop palm trees to draw Governments attention to stop cutting of palm trees, the release. “Palm trees are cut in large numbers, which is unacceptable, as Tamil and palm are inseparable.”
The Movement has opposed Kerala Governments decision to construct a dam across River Amaravathy and has called for nationalisation of rivers.
