The body of a standard V student, who went missing since Monday afternoon, was found floating in a well near his residence on Tuesday morning. The police said that T. Balaji (11) of Mariamman Kovil Street left home at around 12 p.m. on Monday for playing near his house, but did not return home for lunch.

His parents, Thangadurai (35), a mechanic and mother Thenmozhi searched for him. When Balaji’s relative Subramani and Booma were making inquiries near the railway station about the missing boy, two youths said that the relatives have to pay money for the boy’s return. Two other youths joined the duo and the relatives surrounded them and beat them up. The youths were handed over to the Suramangalam police.

They were identified as Damodaran of Gobichettipalayam, Prabhu of Suramangalam, Santhosh of Sivadapuram and Karthick of Hasthampatti. Police investigation failed to reveal anything about the boy and the search continued. On Tuesday morning, the body was found in a well near the residence. Angered by it, parents and relatives blocked the Three Road junction.

Later the body was taken to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital and autopsy conducted.
