The death anniversary of Tirupur Kumaran was observed here on Friday.

After paying floral tributes at Tirupur Kumaran memorial, P.R. Natarajan, general secretary, Tamil Nadu Freedom Fighters and Legal Heirs Committee, remembered the martyr as ‘Kodi Kaththa Kumaran’. “Kumaran got that description as he died holding on to the flag even after sustaining injuries at a spot situated along the present Kumaran Road in the city,” he said. The Bharat Makkal Katchi members, led by A. Annadurai, staged a demonstration near Tirupur railway station asking the authorities concerned to rename the railway station as ‘Tirupur Kumaran’ railway station.
