Collector C.T. Manimekalai, who inspected the construction of a memorial for former Chief Minister O.P.Ramasamy Reddiar at Omandur on Thursday, instructed the officials to make it ready for inauguration by December.

1.01 acre site

She said the memorial was coming up on a 1.01-acre site at a cost of Rs. 69 crore at Omandur, native place of Ramasamy Reddiar, located on Puducherry-Tindivanam road.

During her visit, Ms. Manimekalai found only a handful of workers at the site. She was told that since the contractor had met with an accident and was hospitalised, the works suffered.

Inadequate water supply

A deep borewell sunk there to fill an overhead tank was yielding less than the expected quantum of water, which could hardly meet the construction requirements.

The Collector faulted the contractor for choosing a wrong place for sinking the borewell.

She called upon the officials to make arrangements to speed up the works and get adequate water to the site.

Ms. Manimekalai also told them to replace the broken tiles in the newly built toilets. The memorial should be structured according to the blue print and be ready by December, she added.

Tindivanam tahsildar Meena Priyadarshini, Assistant Executive Engineer (PWD) Mala and Revenue Divisional Officer Jothi were present.
