Dayanidhi alias Durai, son of Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Alagiri, who was wanted in the illegal granite mining case in Melur area arrived here on Thursday night.

He had been on the run ever since the Madurai rural district police registered case against him in August this year for theft of granites by the Olympus Granites in which he was a director. Police sources said that Mr. Dayanidhi arrived all alone at the Madurai airport by a private airlines flight in the night.

“He was not accompanied by anyone, nor did he carry any luggage. No DMK man was there to receive him,” the police said.

Wanted in the illegal granite mining case, the police had quizzed among others, his wife, Anushka, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries, to know the whereabouts of Dayananidhi.

The police had also raided the office of his cinema production company in Chennai. Besides seeking a non-bailable warrant against him, the police got a lookout notice issued against him by the Bureau of Immigration.

However, the Madras High Court on Monday quashed the non-bailable arrest warrant against him and granted him anticipatory bail.
