Students of Kaladiksha Dance School, on Wednesday, donated Rs. 2 lakh to Mahesh Memorial Trust (MMT) Paediatric Oncology Centre at Cancer Institute, Adyar, for the cause of paediatric cancer care.

The contribution made by the students of Kaladiksha Dance School has been towards a social cause every year.
This year, the school identified MMT, which has been working towards helping children with cancer.
MMT Paediatric Oncology Centre at Cancer Institute, Adyar, was opened in April 2009. The facility, housed in a 22,000-sq. ft. building, consists of 40 beds and handles about 25 to 30 day-care patients every day.
“What is vital to treatment is we have to see the children get adequate nutrition and stay in an infection-free environment. We are ensuring these are available to them. There is a Montessori education centre, play area and meditation and counselling centre here. We want this donation to go towards providing nutrition to children,” said P. Jayendra, a trustee of MMT.
Previously, Kaladiksha, founded by Bharatanatyam dancer Meenakshi Chitharanjan, has donated for the causes of differently-abled children, vocational training centre, Andhra Mahila Sabha, Navjyothi Trust and an orphanage at Pallipattu, according to a press release.
The cheque was handed over to filmmaker Mani Ratnam, a trustee of MMT, in the presence of V. Shanta, chairperson of Cancer Institute, Adyar, and actor Jyothika.
MMT is now re-building a modern kitchen for the Institute, located on Canal Bank Road, the release said.
Students of the dance school presented a video conceived and filmed by them and also staged a dance show on the occasion.
