The municipality plans to carry out repairs to damaged roads in the town on an outlay of Rs. 8.50 crore. A resolution to this effect was unanimously passed at a council meeting here on Friday.

Asokan Solomon, Municipal Chairman, presided over the meeting. The councillors condemned the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) officials for not cooperating with municipal officials and police personnel while effecting traffic diversions in connection with carrying out renovation work at Anna bus stand in Meenakshipuram.

Few councillors opposed two proposals — one related to raising the height of the roof of passenger's waiting hall at Anna bus stand at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh and another related to provision of parking facilities for mini buses in the bus stand at a coat of Rs. 8 lakh. These proposals were not passed at the meeting.

All India Anna Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam members Nagarajan, Seenu and Sahayaraj staged a walkout over 2G spectrum issue.
