“Provide free education at primary, higher levels”
MADURAI: Members of Aadhi Christian Empowerment Federation staged a protest at the Anna Bus Stand here on Saturday demanding inclusion of Dalit Christians in the Scheduled Castes list.
Dalit Christians were the first to proselytise and remained the foundational base for Christianity but now they were a neglected lot with various forms of social ostracism, said Sebastian Susairaj, founder, Aadhi Christian Empowerment Federation.
The protestors wanted the Christian Diocese to press the Centre and State Government to include Dalit Christians in the Scheduled Castes category.
Their demand also included a day’s closure of all Christian institutions as a gesture of support to include Dalit Christians in the SC category and to demonstrate Christian solidarity for the issue.
All Christian educational institutes should register Dalit Christians under SC category during admission and also come forward to provide free education to them at primary and higher levels, the federation said.
Its other demand was the formation of a high-level committee to take decisions on employment and education of Dalit Christians in all Dioceses.
