A local court on Friday extended till February 25 the custody of 37 men, including the crew of the U.S. ship that was seized by the Coast Guard last year for allegedly trespassing into Indian waters and possessing weapons. Amid tight security, 41 accused were produced before Judicial Magistrate C. Kathiravan and were given copies of the 2,158-page charge sheet which the Q Branch filed on December 30 against 45 accused.
Seaman Guard Ohio was seized on October 12 last and detained on October 18.
Ukrainian Siderenko Valeriy, chief engineer of the ship, swooned in the courtroom. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of Tuticorin Government Hospital.
J. Silas Jeyamani, Resident Medical Officer, said his condition was stable.
