In an attempt to prevent child labour and create awareness about child rights, Karunalaya Social Service Society, a voluntary organisation, has come up with a novel idea of ‘cultural yatra.'

Volunteers of the organisation would travel to different parts of north Chennai to sensitise people through cultural programmes. The project is being implemented with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The team trained in street plays and folk dances would perform in north Chennai every Saturday for two years. Moreover, a survey to identify the number of child labourers in north Chennai and rescuing them was also launched at a function held in the city on Friday.

Participating in the programme, Madras High Court judge G.M.Akbar Ali said such programmes would help in reaching out to parents and the affected children. Karunalaya's director N.Paul Sunder Singh and its president S.John Bosco also spoke.
