Donkeys pull vehicle in AIADMK agitation

SALEM: Was cruelty perpetrated against hapless animals during the petrol price hike agitation organised by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and its allies here on June 12? "Yes," says the Congress' District Literary president, G.A. Kannan. According to him, the agitators tied three donkeys to a Maruti Omni, and forced the animals to pull the car to register protest against the petrol price hike.

Mr. Kannan said the donkeys were persuaded not "too-gently" to pull the car, with foam frothing from their mouths under the scorching sun. He brought the issue to the notice of the District Collector here urging him to take action against those who were responsible for the reprehensible act under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. He said he had submitted a written petition to the Collector.

Rajya Sabha member

Mr. Kannan also wondered if cruelty to animals could be permitted to happen in an agitation, presided over by a member in the Rajya Sabha.
