Rs.630 crore to be distributed, says Mathivaanan
NAGAPATTINAM: The process of disbursement of agricultural crop insurance to farmers commenced at the Thiruvaimur Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society in Tirukkuvalai on Thursday.
Inaugurating the programme, U. Mathivaanan, Minister for Dairy Development, distributed agricultural implements to the tune of Rs.2.5 lakh on behalf of the department of agriculture.
The Minister stated that about Rs.630 crore of agricultural crop insurance is sought to be distributed to the farmers of the delta districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam. The agricultural insurance scheme entails an equal participatory contribution of 50 per cent by the Centre and the State.
Cooperative bank loans to the tune of Rs.152.59 crore are to be distributed to about 1.41 lakh farmers. Similarly, about Rs.24,134 farmers would receive loans to the tune of Rs.24.71 crore. Additionally, about 1.65 lakh farmers would receive crop insurance to the tune of Rs.177.30 crore. This crop insurance component includes Rs.88.65 crore as contribution from the State Government. The Centre’s contribution will be secured to the farmers, the Minister said.
According to Mr. Mathivaanan, agricultural inputs are adequately stocked in the agricultural depots to ensure agricultural activities without hiccups. About 1,902 tonne urea, 2,629 tonne, di-ammonium phosphate, 939 tonne Potash and 427 tonne complex fertilizer are available for farmers to proceed with their Samba cultivation.
