A meeting of the owners of the stainless steel utensils manufacturing units in the Anupparpalayam cluster held here on Friday evening has resolved not to give more than 20 per cent hike to the wages of workers.
S. Velusamy, secretary of Stainless Steel Utensils Manufacturing Association, told The Hindu that the suggestion put forward by the labour officials to increase the wages by 25 per cent was not acceptable.
The labour officials’ ‘advise’ came in the wake of the impasse continuing in the wage revision talks between the unit owners and trade unions, soon after the end of the deliberations on Thursday evening.
As soon as the labour officials gave the ‘advise’ to fix the wage hike at 25 per cent over the previous scales, the trade unions called off their strike expecting that the unit owners would accept the offer.
