Mobile phone shop burgled

Burglars allegedly broke into a mobile phone shop in Mannadi and stole Rs.2.5 lakh cash.

According to police sources, Chellakani (42) of Ellis Nagar owns a mobile phone shop in Mannadi. When he went to open the shop on Saturday, the main door lock was found broken.

The cash kept in a safe was missing. Fingerprint experts inspected the scene of crime. The Esplanade police have registered a case.

Man arrested

for selling ganja

A man was arrested on charges of being in possession of ganja.

Police said Sankar (27) of Nammalvarpet sells drinking water sachets in the Gopalapuram, Teynampet and Kilpauk areas.

Based on information that he was also selling ganja in small quantities, a special team intercepted him on Ormes Road on Friday. He was in possession of five kg of the contraband.

The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, police added.

Pirated CDs seized

The Video Piracy Cell of the Crime Branch CID police on Saturday seized 3,000 compact discs containing pirated version of latest Tamil and Telugu films and obscene movies.

According to a press release issued by the police, a special team raided a house in Seven Wells based on specific information and arrested Syed Ibrahim (25) of Mannadi. Besides the CDs, electronic gadgets used to commit the offence were also seized from him.

The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
