Cash stolen, recovered

: An amount of Rs.12 lakh that was robbed from a man and recovered by the police five years ago was stolen on Tuesday.

Police tracked down the suspect and recovered the money from him.

Police said Abdullah (54), manager of a private firm, was robbed of Rs.12 lakh in 2005 when he was going to a bank. The North Beach police arrested two persons and recovered the money.

When the case came up for hearing in a George Town court on Wednesday, Abdullah came with the money for producing it in the court. When he went to a restaurant near the court for lunch, one of his relatives Yousuf, who came along to assist him, escaped with the bag containing the cash.

A special team formed to investigate the case followed specific clues and apprehended Yousuf.

Held for furnishing fake documents

Four persons, including two women, were arrested on charges of submitting fake documents for obtaining visa at the U.S. Consulate here on Tuesday.

According to police sources, Deepak (35), Naveen (30), Freida (30) and Serina (27) of Goa had submitted applications for visa. During scrutiny the Consulate authorities found the documents to be fake.

The Royapettah police detained the accused persons for interrogation.
