Man found murdered 

A man, aged around 35, was found murdered on the margins of Keelkattalai Lake. His head had been reportedly smashed with a stone. His identity was not established by Thursday.

Woman commits suicide

A 55-year-old woman immolated herself at her house in Kamarajar Nagar in Korukupettai on Thursday. S. Narasuamma had been suffering from stomach pain since Wednesday evening and suspected she had cancer.

Unable to bear the pain, she decided to kill herself. At night, she locked her room and set herself on fire after pouring kerosene.

She died at KMC around 5.30 a.m. on Thursday.

 Fake notes recovered 

Police have arrested two men and are searching for a third after fake currency notes were seized from them in Tambaram. Janakiraman of Urapakkam had handed over a Rs. 1,000 note at a Tasmac outlet on Thursday.

On suspicion, staff informed policemen who held the youth. Investigations established he, along with a friend Krishnamurthy, had taken a loan from Kumar of Puducherry. Krishnamurthy, who was also arrested, had a few counterfeit notes in his possession.

Chain snatched

at DPI campus

A senior woman official of the Directorate of School Education was robbed of an eight-sovereign-gold chain inside the premises of the directorate on Thursday.

S. Jayanthi (57), who works as a superintendent in the Directorate of Elementary Education within the premises, had got down from an autorickshaw opposite the premises around 10.45 a.m.

A man coming from the opposite direction by walk snatched the chain and rushed to the entrance of the premises where another man was waiting with a bike. The duo fled.

This is the first time such an incident has been reported on the campus.

Police are investigating the possibility of the involvement of an Iranian gang as according to them, “local gangs would not dare commit a crime inside a government building.”
