Double life sentence for woman, paramour

A woman and her paramour were sentenced to double life imprisonment on Thursday in the court of the Principal District and Sessions Court on the charge of murdering another man with whom she had a simultaneous relationship.

According to the case dealt by Thottiam police, Ponnusamy (63), a bootlegger with a crime record, and Muthulakshmi (45), a widow, both belonging to Palapatti in Namakkal district had conspired and murdered Jeganathan (55), a construction worker, also belonging to the same place.

The accused had lured Jeganathan to Thiruingonimalai in Thottiyam limits and murdered him using boulders and machetes. According to the judgement, the two life imprisonments on counts of conspiracy and murder will run concurrently. The Judge P. Velmurugan also imposed fines of Rs.2,000 each on the accused.

Burglars decamp with Rs.50,000 , 1kg silver

Unidentified burglars reportedly decamped with Rs.50,000 and one kilogram silver from the residence of Gunasekaran (47), owner of a jewellery retail outlet at Big Bazaar Street when the inmates were away.

The burglary was noticed on Thursday after the inmates returned and found the rear door broken open. The Sessions Court police have registered a case.

Commissioner reviews 62 man missing cases

Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav on Thursday reviewed the status of 62 man missing cases – 42 men, 15 women and the rest children – registered by the city police stations since 2007.

Mr.Shailesh made enquiries with relatives of the missing persons and instructed subordinate officials to accelerate efforts for making progress.
