Two arrested

Two persons were arrested here on Friday on charges of cheating an unemployed youth and swindling Rs. 7.46 lakh from him.

According to police, Ramesh (30), a commerce graduate and a resident of Shenoy Nagar, gave cash in instalments in 2010 to Muthukumar (43) and Kanimozhi (40), residing in Sunguvar Street, Triplicane. The couple had promised a job in the government sector for Ramesh.

Ramesh who later found out that he was cheated lodged a complaint with T.P. Chatram police.

Students held

Two college students who tried to flee after assaulting a bus conductor near Maduravoyal were arrested on Saturday.

According to police, Arvind (21) and Muthukumar (20), students of a private college on Poonamallee High Road, boarded an MTC bus (29E) bound to Thiruverkadu. The duo did not buy bus tickets. When the bus conductor Subramani demanded that they pay the bus fare, the students assaulted him and fled with the conductor’s bag.

Other passengers gave chase and handed them over to Maduravoyal police.

Serial burglar arrested

Ambattur police on Saturday arrested a serial burglar and seized 22 sovereigns of gold jewellery from him.

Police sources said the accused, Kolanjiappan (42), a resident of Mettukuppam in Maduravoyal, was roaming near Ambattur O.T in a suspicious manner. A police patrol team who spotted him questioned Kolanjiappan and realised that he was a suspect involved in more than 15 burglary cases in Ambattur, Korattur, Mangadu and adjoining areas.
