Police station robbed
Robbers daringly struck at the P-6 Kodungaiyur police station on Saturday night and stole Rs.5,000 from the personal locker of two policemen.
The station had an attached guest room which the personnel used to rest and change clothes. On Saturday night, two policemen had left their uniform, identity cards and salary in a locker. When they returned in the morning after the nightly rounds, they discovered that Rs.3,000 was missing from one locker, and Rs.2,000 from another.
Their ID cards were also missing. Senior police officials visited the station and reprimanded the guards, sources said.
The body of an unidentified woman, believed to be around 35 years old, was discovered on a street in K.K.Nagar, Madhavaram, around midnight on Saturday.
Passers-by who noticed a person lying motionless outside the compound wall of a private leprosy hospital alerted the police.
A team headed by Assistant Commissioner Ashok Kumar rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Police sources said that the woman seems to have been strangled. There were also injuries on her head. Madhavaram police have registered a case. Investigations are on to ascertain the victim's identity.
Two men were arrested by the Injambakkam police here on Sunday for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a senior citizen, after having gone to his house under the pretext of looking for a room for rent.
Police sources said that Vidyasagar (65), a retired government employee, received two visitors on Thursday evening.
They started enquiring about the house and suddenly grabbed his three-sovereign-chain. In this connection, the Injambakkam police arrested S.Sankar (38) and S.Kamala Kannan (24).
The chain has been retrieved from them and the accused have been sent to Puzhal prison.
