Robbed in auto

Two unidentified men allegedly robbed a 50-year-old man at knifepoint inside a share autorickshaw on Wednesday.

Police said Govindasamy of Veerabadran Koil Street, Uttandi, had boarded the share autorickshaw around 6 p.m. in Neelankarai, to go to his house. Even as the driver of the vehicle took a different route, another man robbed Govindasamy at knifepoint of his half-a-sovereign ring and Rs.1,000 in cash.

The duo dropped him in Porur and gave him some change and asked him to take a bus back home, sources said. Govindasamy lodged a complaint.

Elderly woman robbed

An 80-year-old woman living alone was robbed of her gold jewellery at her house in R.A.Puram on Wednesday night by an unidentified man.

Abiramapuram police sources said the accused came to the victim Anandi's house on the pretext of asking for drinking water. When she went inside to bring water, the man hid himself in the house. On not seeing him at the doorstep, Anandi closed the main door. She turned around and saw the man inside the house. He threatened her with a knife and fled with jewellery weighing 10 sovereigns, sources said.
