4 held for kidnap

Four men working in a private chit fund were arrested on Sunday night for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a loan defaulter.

Police said that the accused – Gopal, Suresh, Prasad and Elaiyakumar – had asked the complainant, Parthiban, a resident of Vepery, to come to a private bank at Pursawalkam on Saturday.

Parthiban had secured a loan of Rs.1.8 lakh from the ‘chit fund' and had not paid dues for two months. Investigations revealed that the accused had actually taken a loan of Rs.3.5 lakh from the chit fund and after giving Parthiban Rs. 1.8 lakh as loan, they kept the remaining sum for themselves.

In the meantime, Parthiban sought a further loan of Rs. 5 lakh. The four accused had asked him to pay Rs.50,000 by way of commission and old dues.

But when Parthiban reached the meeting spot, he was bundled into an autorickshaw and taken to a house in Ayanavaram where he was beaten up. Police are on the lookout for a fifth person, Dinesh.
