Case against prison inmate

A case has been registered against an inmate of Central Prison here after he allegedly tried to smuggle a cell phone, mobile phone battery and ganja inside the jail while being produced back in the prison after his appearance before a court on Tuesday. Police sources said the inmate - R.Logeswaran (25) who was lodged in the Central Jail in April was escorted on Tuesday and produced before the Judicial Magistrate court at Thuraiyur in connection with a property offence case registered against him.

He was escorted back to the jail where the prison officials found a cell phone, mobile phone battery and 65 grams of ganja allegedly hidden inside his footwear while conducting checks at the gate.

The K.K. Nagar Police has registered a case on a complaint lodged by Jailor P.Mariyappan.

Pedestrian dies in accident

A pedestrian succumbed to his head injury after being knocked down by a car on the Tiruchi – Dindigul national highway near Vellivadi diversion road close to Inamkulathur on Tuesday night.

Police sources said P.Sekar (45) of Vellivadi was crossing the road when the Tiruchi-bound car from Dindigul knocked him down. He succumbed to injury at the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Headquarters Hospital . The Inamkulathur Police have registered a case.
