: A Sub-Inspector of Police who asked two persons to remove their motorcycles parked on the main road was allegedly attacked in Choolaimedu on Monday night.
According to police sources, the Sub-Inspector (Law and Order) A.Veerasamy was conducting a routine check in Sowrashtra Nagar Sixth Street when he found some persons consuming liquor after parking their vehicles on the road.
“Since I was in plainclothes, I revealed my identity and asked them to leave the place. Two persons who were in an inebriated condition started abusing me. Even as I tried to explain that consuming liquor in public is an offence, they were in no mood to listen and attacked me with a liquor bottle,” Mr. Veerasamy said.
The SI who suffered a deep cut injury on his face was admitted to a nearby hospital. His condition was said to be stable. A special team formed to investigate the case arrested Yuvaraj (40) and Manohar (45) of Shenoy Nagar. They were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
Manpower agency proprietor kidnapped
The proprietor of a manpower agency was allegedly kidnapped by two persons whom he owed some money. On information, police laid a trap and rescued him on Monday.
According to police sources, Palanivelu (47) and Ravi (48) of Pattukottai gave Rs.6 lakh to Neelakandan (51), who runs the agency in Choolaimedu, to arrange some employment abroad. After Neelakandan could not arrange the jobs, the two demanded their money back.
On Sunday, they forcibly took him to a place in T. Nagar and detained him there. Ravi called Selvaraj, one of Neelakandan's employees, to deliver some documents pertaining to the transaction near a mall on Arcot Road. Sensing trouble, Selvaraj alerted the police.
A special team formed to investigate the case asked Selvaraj to meet Ravi with the documents. When he went there, Ravi was waiting near a teashop. Police apprehended the accused who revealed that Neelakandan was in the custody of Palanivelu at a place in T. Nagar.
Police rescued the victim. The two accused persons were arrested. Further investigation is on, the sources added.
Charred body found
: The charred remains of a man were found near Rajakilpakkam lake on Tuesday.
Selaiyur police, who are investigating, said they received information from residents of Rajakilpakkam that they were witness to the burning of a body of a man. The incident took place around noon.
The police said they rushed to the spot and noticed the charred remains of the man, around 25 years of age, who is yet to be identified. A couple of petrol cans and a match box were recovered from the spot, police added.
