Loan amount will be deducted from salary

MADURAI: Employees of Government/public sector undertakings (PSU) visiting the book fair at Tamukkam Grounds from September 1 to 10 will have the option of availing a credit card worth Rs.1,000 for purchase of books.

The loan amount will be deducted from their salary in instalments. The book fair is being organised by the Booksellers and Publishers' Association of South India (BAPASI).

According to the Collector, T. Udhayachandran, who has been showing a keen interest in organising the book fair, a nationalised bank had offered to establish an extension counter at the venue to benefit the Government/PSU staff.

He told reporters here on Wednesday that the Collectors in southern districts had appealed to school and college students to visit the book fair in Madurai.

Besides books, literature in compact disc (CD) format would also be available in the 180 stalls. Special buses would be operated for visitors to reach the Tamukkam Grounds from different places.

Films, documentaries, seminars and debates would be part of the book fair. Elocution competitions would be organised for college students with cash prizes.

The BAPASI representatives said efforts were on to conduct book fairs in all the districts.
