: Transport authorities have joined in the drive to check violation of model code of conduct.

The toll free number of 1800-425-7040, which was printed in the form of stickers and posters, were being pasted on vehicles of public transport.

The exercise was carried out as per instructions from Collector and Returning Officer M. Ravikumar.

Regional Transport Officer K. Anand said so far 100 TNSTC buses, 35 mini buses and 25 other category vehicles including private buses had been covered. Apart from creating awareness of the democratic right of every eligible voter to exercise his or her franchise in the election, district administration was keen on checking violation of the model code of conduct. A control room was set up at the collectorate here.

The toll free number 1800-425-7040 was introduced to access the control room. Public could lodge complaint regarding violation of model code of conduct and election-related irregularities.

Complaints, if any, could be posted online through thoothukudi2014complaints@gmail.com., sources from the Election Cell said. General Manager of the TNSTC, Tuticorin, Murugan, and others from RTO were present.
