About 250 students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Katpadi, including members of the National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps , Scouts and Junior Red Cross (JRC), participated in a procession at Katpadi on behalf of the School Education Department on Thursday to create awareness of a smoke-less ‘Bhogi.'

V. Mahendiran, Inspector of Police, Virdudhambut, flagged off the procession. It started from the GBHSS, Katpadi, passed through the cross streets and Cuddalore-Chittoor National Highway, went up to the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Katpadi, and returned to the starting point. K. Vijayalakshmi, Headmistress, GBHSS, Katpadi, presided. D. Ambrose, district coordinator (environment), office of the Chief Educational Officer (CEO), Vellore, V. Vedhakkan Dhanaraj, Personal Assistant (Secondary School) to the CEO, and G. Somasundaram, V. Murugesan, S. Nambikkai Mary and E. Sironmani Xavier, assistant headmasters, spoke.

Students carried placards and raised slogans appealing to the people to avoid bonfires that cause environmental pollution. V. Dayalan and S. Sivaraj, NSS officers, K. Raja, NCC officer, C. Gunasekar, scouts officer, G.K. Desai and N. Jaishankar, JRC counsellors, S. Sachidanandam, vocational teacher, and M. Vimalanathan, physical education teacher, guided the procession. Mr. Somasundaram proposed a vote of thanks.
