The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday urged the territorial administration to set up a special court to hear Vinodhini’s case for speedy justice.
V. Perumal, secretary of the Puducherry unit of the CPI (M), told reporters here that the case should be treated on a par with the New Delhi gang rape case. The government, judiciary and the police should take immediate steps to complete the trial fast in this case. Setting up a special court is a better option.
Only one person was accused in the acid attack case. There were inputs that few more persons reportedly played a role in it. Hence, the police must include those left out.
Mr. Perumal added that the Left parties had announced a two-day general strike on February 20 and 21 against the wrong economic policies of the Central government and spiralling price rise.
On failure of standing paddy crop in Karaikal, he said the territorial administration should declare both the Karaikal and Puducherry regions as drought-hit.
