The Communist Party of India (Marxist) urged the State government to take steps for setting up a primary health centre at Namanasamuthiram village.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the party organised by its Tirumayam taluk unit on Wednesday. The meeting urged the State School Education Department to upgrade the MCDM High School at Namanasamuthiram into a higher secondary school.

The government should come forward to provide compensation to all the drought-hit farmers of the district and take steps for opening a branch of a nationalised bank in Namanasamuthiram.

The government has allotted land for the setting up of a yarn unit in the village. But some vested interests were attempting to sell the land and the government should prevent this, another resolution said.

R. Annadurai, MLA and State Ccommittee member of the party, was the chief guest. A fund-raising campaign was conducted by the party recently and a cheque for Rs. 30,000 was handed over to him.

K.R. Chinnaiya, taluk committee member, presided over the programme.
