The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Karur district committee has resolved to extend its wholehearted support to the general strike call given by the Central trade unions to protest anti-people policies.
A resolution passed at the district committee meeting of the party here noted that the trade unions have given a call for 48-hour general strike on February 20 and 21 to highlight their 10-point charter of demands. The issue sought to be highlighted include price rise, unemployment, children’s education, healthcare delivery, and medical field irregularities. The party decided to extend its full support to the strike call and urged all sections of society to support the strike .
Through another resolution, the party district committee decided to organise street corner meetings on February 25 all over the district to popularise and explain the significance of awareness rally being organised by the CPI (M) from Kanyakumari to New Delhi to present the leftist alternative policy solutions to issues such as indiscriminate liberal economic policies, food security, education, unemployment, public health, and sanitation that haunt the people of the nation.
District Executive Committee member K.Sakthivel presided over the meeting in which district secretary K.Kandasamy, district executive members G.Rathinavelu, S.Shanmughasundaram, M.Jothi Basu and J.Annakamakshi participated.
