CHENNAI: The State committee of the CPI (M) will organise demonstrations across the State on March 15, urging the government to arrest those involved in the murder of Velusamy, secretary of the party's Pallipalayam unit in Namakkal district.

He was murdered on March 10, allegedly by a gang involved in usury.

A statement from G. Ramakrishnan, CPI (M) State secretary, said Velusamy was in the forefront exposing the atrocities of the gang, which had sexually assaulted a girl and hosted the images on the internet.

The girl's family had borrowed money from the gang.

“The police must arrest the accused including, Sivakumar and Rajendran, who are running the business,” he said and urged the government to arrange alternative private financial assistance for the poor and relief to the victim.
