: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) would organise a novel agitation on November 17 by holding handles in all the district headquarters of the district to protest against the power cut in the state, said its state secretary, G. Ramakrishnan.
After participating in a marriage he told presspersons here on Thursday that people from all walks of life were affected by the power cut which was being enforced in 12 to 14 hours every day.
The small and medium scale industries in Trippur and Coimbatore came to a standstill following the power cut.
Hence, he appealed to the Government to take immediate steps on a war-footing to set right the power cut. Moreover, the government should take short-term as well as long-term measures to find out an early solution to the power cut. The Government should also come forward to provide diesel in subsidized rate for the benefit of those who wanted to make use of generators.
He further said that the Government should take all the sand quarries in the state to streamline the fixation of price for the benefit of poor and middle-class people.
The CPI (M) would oppose Foreign Direct Investment in retail sector as it would affect the retailers. He also condemned the Dharmapurai incident by saying that it was a “pre-planed attack” on the Dalits.
Hence he demanded the Government to ensure the safety and the welfare of oppressed and suppressed people in the society.
