The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has deplored the Sri Lankan Navy's attack on Indian fishermen.
In a statement here on Thursday, G. Ramakrishnan, State secretary of the party, lamented that their indiscriminate firing on the fishermen, 14 nautical miles away from Jagathapattinam in Pudukottai district, had resulted in the death of a 19-year-old youth. A couple of days ago, the Sri Lankan naval forces had seized fish from fishermen near Kachatheevu.
It was distressing to note that such “barbaric” attacks on fishermen were taking place even after the end of the armed struggle in Sri Lanka, he said. — Special Correspondent
