Cows have been distributed to 1,200 beneficiaries in 24 villages, and sheep and goats to 10,733 beneficiaries in 219 villages under the government's free distribution of animals’ scheme, said K.Baskaran, Collector, here on Saturday. In a release, the Collector said that 4,000 litres of milk is now procured additionally by Aavin in the district because of the milch animals distributed to the people. Fodder worth Rs. 10,000 will be given to 10 select farmers who rear the milch animals well. Similarly, Rs. 19,500 worth of fodder each will be given to 15 select farmers who rear the goats well. In total, 25 farmers will get the awards at the Uzhavar Peruvizha, which begins here on Sunday.
