The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday ordered Deputy Director of Town and Country Planning to unseal the office premises of PRP Exports, one of the many private firms under scanner in the multi-crore granite quarry scam in the district, at Therkutheru near here, until a final decision is taken on its application seeking technical approval for the office buildings.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Chitra Venkataraman and Justice S. Vimala passed the order while disposing of two writ petitions filed by the firm challenging the sealing of its premises by the Deputy Director on January 4 on the charge of not obtaining technical approval from his office despite a warning and sufficient time given to correct the infirmity.

Recording the submission of the petitioner firm that it had already obtained planning permissions for the buildings from Therkutheru and Narasingampatti panchayat, the judges directed it to file an application, along with those planning permissions, within three weeks to the Deputy Director of Town and Country Planning seeking technical approval for the buildings.

On receipt of the application, the Deputy Director was ordered to process it and take a final decision after inspecting the premises in the presence of the petitioner’s representatives. In the meantime, the officer was ordered to remove the seal in the administrative block of the petitioner’s firm and permit its activities required for day-to-day administration of the company.

The judges made it clear that the petitioner firm should not make any alteration to the existing structure until a final decision was taken by the Deputy Director.

“The petitioner

firm should not make any alteration to the existing structure”
