CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed that the anticipatory bail and bail petitions filed by the accused in the case relating to the alleged attack on O.S. Maniyan, AIADMK MP, be transferred from the court of the District and Sessions Judge, Nagapattinam, to the Court of Sessions at Thanjavur.

Justice R. Regupathi passed the order on a petition from the MP. The Judge directed the Thanjavur court to dispose of the petitions on merits in accordance with law without any delay.

In his petition, Mr. Maniyan said that on January 28 when he attended a wedding at Marudhur village, he was assaulted by a gang which removed his dhoti and shirt. He submitted that as the District and Sessions Judge (DSJ), Nagapattinam, had gone on leave, the DSJ, Tiruvarur, had been given additional charge of the District and Sessions Court, Nagapattinam. Mr. Maniyan said he feared he would get only “partial justice” at the hands of the Judge.

Hence, he sought transfer of the petitions to any other court outside Nagapattinam district.
