Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will offer a self-supporting B.Tech. degree programme in bioinformatics as a four-year course from the academic year 2006-07.

A release said that the course would offer commercial and industrial orientation. Students who had studied physics, chemistry and biology in Plus Two were eligible to apply for B.Tech. in bioinformatics.

Application forms were available at the Agricultural Colleges of the University in Coimbatore, Madurai, Killikulam and Tiruchi; Agricultural Engineering College, Kumulur; Forest College, Mettupalayam; Horticultural College, Periyakulam; and Urban Horticultural Development Centre, Chennai.

The cost of the application was Rs. 600 (Rs. 300 for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates). Application forms could also be downloaded from www.tnau.ac.in, the website of the University. Completed applications should reach the Dean (Agriculture), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore - 641 003, on or before 5 p.m. on June 16.
