VELLORE: The programme of offering counselling to the X, XI and XII Standard students of all government high/higher secondary schools in Vellore district is to commence in the first week of January.

The programme aims at providing counselling to the students to solve their personal and social problems in order to ensure that they were able to concentrate better on their studies. The Collector, S.Gopalakrishnan gave this information while presiding over a meeting held here on Friday to review the implementation of the government schemes under the 18-point programme.

He suggested that committees comprising persons not connected with the school, especially representatives of non-governmental organisations are appointed to each school to provide counselling so that the students would disclose their problems to the committee without any fear.

These counselling committees would meet every month to hear and solve the problems of the students.

The Joint Director of Medical Services, Chandrasena, Deputy Director of Public Health, Tirupattur, Prakash, Deputy Director of Public Health, Vellore, A.Somasundaram, District Nutrition Officer, Krishnaveni, Personal Assistant (General) to the Collector, Viswambaran, District Information and Public Relations Officer, M.Kalaimani, Personal Assistant to the Chief Educational Officer, G.Sathyanarayanan, Project Officer, Post-Literacy Scheme, Santhanam and District Extension Educator, Srinivasalu participated in the meeting.
