KANCHEEPURAM: Tension prevailed at Maraimalai Nagar Municipal Office on Wednesday night after a group of councillors led by the vice-chairman, Shanmugham, staged a ‘sit-in dharna’ at the council hall protesting the chairman, Sasikala’s refusal to allow a resolution forwarded by the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) councillor.

Enquiries reveal that councillor Vijayakumar of DMDK, forwarded a resolution seeking the council’s consent for allocation of pattas for a group of families residing in Kizhkaranai area for more than 50 years.

When the resolution came up for discussion at the council meeting held on Wednesday evening, Ms. Sasikala reportedly informed Mr. Vijayakumar that the resolution could be taken up for discussion at the next meeting since she had decided to inspect the area personally.

However, the councillors withdrew their agitation in the evening after the Regional Administration Engineer, Karunakaran held talks with them.
