SALEM: A section of the councillors of Kadaiyampatti panchayat union staged a dharna inside the council hall and prevented the Union chairperson and the Commissioner from leaving the hall on Wednesday.

They were demanding allocation of adequate funds to their wards.

Complaint

Councillors complained in the council meeting that the union should allot adequate funds to all the wards to carry out development works.

But a number of wards were not being given funds, it was pointed out.

Doors locked

When the Chairperson Vinotharani Rudhrakumar declared that the meeting was over and tried to leave the hall, a few councillors including the ruling party members locked the doors of the hall.

They staged a dharna inside the hall. Police personnel rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
